Charted

Credits and licenses

Credits and licenses for Charted.

Charted's Progress Globe icon and store artwork use the same Natural Earth geography as the app. The screenshots show a fictional demo journal, not a customer's travel history.

Map and city data

Natural Earth country and administrative boundaries are public domain. Charted simplifies, groups and labels the source geometry. Data and terms: https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/

City data is derived from GeoNames, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Charted filters, transforms and packages the data into its bundled city catalog. Source: https://www.geonames.org/ — license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Country counts depend on the selected basis. The app's Century Club basis contains 267 supported destinations; it is not a claim of complete parity with any external travel-club list. Charted is not affiliated with the Travelers' Century Club.

Fonts and map rendering

Bundled Noto Sans map glyphs use the SIL Open Font License 1.1. Copyright and full license are included with the app's glyph resources and in the release license folder. Source: https://github.com/notofonts/latin-greek-cyrillic

MapLibre Native is used for flat map rendering on iPhone, iPad and Android. Its BSD license and notices are included in the release license folder. Source: https://github.com/maplibre/maplibre-native

Apple globe imagery is provided by Apple Maps. The app retains the provider's native attribution. Apple Maps is subject to Apple's terms: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/maps/terms-en.html

Application libraries

The Apple app uses GRDB.swift under the MIT license, with SQLite provided by the platform. Source: https://github.com/groue/GRDB.swift

The Android app uses AndroidX, Kotlin and kotlinx libraries, whose open-source components generally use Apache License 2.0. Google Play Billing and Google authorization libraries are governed by their respective SDK/service terms.

Full MapLibre, GRDB and Noto license notices accompany Charted and are reproduced in the app’s Acknowledgements screen. The Apple package includes MapLibre iOS 6.28.0's platform inventory. The Android package includes MapLibre Android 13.5.1's platform inventory and its native renderer inventory, including RapidJSON and the other listed C++ components. The website retains both platform inventories.

These inventories reproduce the upstream projects' notices. Some optional or historical components named in an upstream inventory are not linked in every Charted target. A listed library does not by itself mean that a particular Charted feature uses that library or service. Apple Vision Pro uses Apple Maps instead of MapLibre for its globe.
