Your travel journal
Charted stores your marked places, visits, dates, notes, trips, preferences and attached photos in the app's storage on your device. There is no Charted account, advertising, analytics service or developer-operated travel database. We do not receive your journal through normal use of the app.
Optional location
If you enable country suggestions, Charted requests your location while the app is in use. It compares the location with bundled country boundaries on your device and suggests a country for you to mark. Charted does not keep a location history or run background location tracking. You can turn suggestions off in Charted or revoke location permission in system settings.
Photos and exports
The system photo picker lets you select individual photos. Charted copies the selected photos into its private device storage. Photos are not included in Charted's JSON exports or its CloudKit/Google Drive journal sync. Your operating system may include local app data and photos in device backups or transfers according to your account settings.
You choose whether to export a JSON journal or share an image. Recipients and services you select then receive that file under their own terms. Exports can contain visit notes and travel dates; check the file before sharing it publicly. Deleting a file in Charted does not delete copies you previously shared.
Optional cloud sync
Apple versions can synchronize journal records through the private CloudKit database in your iCloud account. Android can synchronize them through the private app-data folder in your Google Drive account. Sync transfers marked places, visits, notes, dates, trips and supported preferences to Apple or Google over encrypted connections. Charted reads and merges those records on your devices. It does not send them to a developer-operated server. Photos are excluded.
Google authorization is limited to the app-data scope; Charted does not browse your ordinary Drive documents. Google user data is used only to provide journal synchronization. Charted's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Turn sync off in Charted to stop subsequent sync requests. Revoking access alone may leave stored cloud data. Use your iCloud storage controls or Google Drive's Manage apps controls to remove Charted's cloud data, and revoke the app's Google access in your Google Account if desired. Disable sync on your other devices before removing cloud copies, so a device does not upload its journal again. Apple and Google control retention of their backups and service records.
Maps and purchases
The bundled flat maps and Android globe work locally. The Apple 3D globe uses Apple Maps imagery and services, which can make network requests to Apple. Apple handles those requests under its privacy policy. Purchases and restoration use Apple's App Store or Google Play; those services process payment and purchase information under their own policies. Charted receives product and entitlement information to unlock Pro. We do not receive your payment-card details. Platform services and their libraries may process service or diagnostic information under their provider policies.
Website, viewer and support
The public Charted website does not include advertising, analytics scripts or a contact form. The static hosting provider may receive ordinary request information, such as IP address, browser information and requested pages, to deliver and secure the site. The public website's hosting notice identifies the selected provider before launch.
The web viewer reads a JSON file you choose inside your browser. Its application code does not upload the journal to us or the host. A sample journal is fictional. Clearing the page removes the loaded journal from the viewer's memory; downloaded files remain wherever you save them.
If you email support, we receive your email address, message and anything you attach. Do not send a complete journal or personal photos unless needed for your request. We use support correspondence to answer and investigate your request and retain it only while necessary for support and applicable recordkeeping obligations. Ask us to delete it when it is no longer needed.
Your choices and rights
You can edit and delete journal entries in the app, export your records, disable sync, revoke permissions or remove the app and its local data. Device backups, cloud copies, exports and recipients' copies require separate removal. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict personal information we hold, or complain to your data-protection authority. Contact the email above about information in support correspondence. Contact Apple, Google or your hosting provider about information they hold independently. Charted does not sell personal information or use it for cross-service advertising.
Children and changes
Charted is a general-audience travel journal and is not specifically directed to children. A parent or guardian can contact us about personal information sent to support. Store age ratings are determined by the store questionnaires and local rules.
We will update this policy when data practices change and revise its effective date. Material changes that require consent will be presented before the affected feature is used.

Website hosting
This static website is hosted by Cloudflare. It has no publisher-added analytics, advertising trackers, contact form, or mailing-list form. Cloudflare may process ordinary delivery and security information, including IP addresses, browser information, requested URLs, and request times. Provider processing and retention follow the applicable service configuration and Cloudflare Privacy Policy. The app data practices described above are separate from these website requests.
