Help with Charted

For help, email support@chartedapp.net. Include your device model, operating system, Charted version and the steps that led to the issue. Please do not send a full journal or photos unless they are needed to investigate.

Restore Pro

On Apple devices, open Settings → Restore purchases and use the Apple Account that made the purchase. On Android, use the same Google Play account and open Settings → Restore purchases. Purchases are separate between Apple and Google. For refunds, use the store's purchase history and refund process.

Back up or move your journal

Open Settings → Export data and save the JSON file somewhere safe. Import it in Charted on your other device. Ordinary JSON includes supported travel records and preferences, without photo bytes. In newer versions, Backup and connected devices → Save full backup with photos creates a portable backup for Apple and Android, including locally available photos. The full backup is limited to 96 MB and each photo to 8 MB; if it cannot include every referenced photo, it reports an error. Keep a separate copy of important photos. The file web viewer opens ordinary JSON exports without uploading them.

Sync is not working

Check your connection and available cloud storage. On Apple devices, check that iCloud is enabled and signed in. On Android, reconnect the intended Google account and allow access to Charted's private app-data folder. Keep both devices on the current app version. Apple CloudKit and Android Google Drive sync are separate and transfer records without photo files. In newer builds they also transfer supported counting, appearance and map-personalization preferences; notification and permission choices remain device-specific. Newer versions also offer optional paired sync: create an account in Backup and connected devices, save its private pairing key, and connect the other device using the same service and key. Sync all data and photos now merges the devices. Export a backup before troubleshooting. A conflict means another device updated the backup; sync again. There is no pairing-key recovery.

Delete your data

Delete entries inside Charted, or remove the app and its local storage. If you used sync, turn it off on all your devices first, then remove Charted data from iCloud storage or Google Drive's Manage apps controls. Revoke Google access in your account if desired. Remove exported files, operating-system backups and shared copies separately. If you created a paired-sync account, use Backup and connected devices → Delete cloud account to remove its backup and all shared links, or use the account deletion page with the pairing key. Disconnect alone does not delete server data. Cloud deletion keeps your local journal. If you no longer have the key, email support; the service has no email identity, so ownership may be impossible to establish. Email support to request removal of support correspondence.

Location and photos

Country suggestions are optional and foreground-only. Change location access in system Settings. Photos are selected through the system picker. Optional photo-history import reads dates and location metadata from only the selected photos, then shows proposals for review. Photo bytes stay local unless you choose a full backup, paired sync or sharing; ordinary JSON and Apple/Google sync exclude them. No background travel recording is added.

About the map

Boundaries follow the bundled Natural Earth dataset. GeoNames supplies city data. The app flags supported disputed territories and does not express a political position. Use official local sources for navigation and border-crossing decisions.
